Tracking

This is the foundation course for those seeking to develop man tracking skills. Topics include: identifying sign, utilizing tracking, tracking card/log, chain of evidence, tracking stick, use of light; marking sign, tracking teams, lost track procedures.

Prerequisite: None
Hours: 18
Group Size: <9 with one instructor; Groups 10-18 require second instructor
Delivery: Classroom/Field – exercises and extended field evolutions
Standard Length: One long weekend, usually involving a Friday evening & Saturday night tracking.

Major Topics Include:

  • Learn to read detailed characteristics from sign, Identify and age sign and contamination, recording sign.
  • Work in and lead tracking teams (track team dynamics).
  • Demonstration of following an evasive subject hot track.
  • Demonstration on a map problem how to deploy multiple tracking teams in conjunction with other search resources, will be instructed in and demonstrate submitting written documentation to tasking agencies.

Standard Length: One long weekend, usually involving a Friday afternoon & evening. Will also have a Saturday night tracking session.
Ratio: 1:3

  • Major Topics Include:  
    • Demonstration of  sign cutting skills in PLS & clue situations.
    • Identify and record, footprints of missing person in contaminated situations.
    • Accurately interpret sign, aging sign or evidence at incident location.
    • Be able to trouble shoot problem locations where sign is lost or accurate interpretation is required.
    • Demonstrate collection preservation techniques of sign and evidence.
    • Demonstrate skill at coordinating and assigning tracking teams.
    • Understand missing person behavior and Search Management theory.

    Prerequisite: Tracker 300 plus required hours
    Hours: 24
    Standard Length: Five days or two long weekends.
